World Cup winner Pedro Rodríguez is planning a tribute match in Tenerife featuring football legends like David Silva to celebrate his career and the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium's anniversary.

The Pedro Rodríguez Foundation is planning an unforgettable event, led by its president, the Lazio footballer and World Cup winner with Spain. He's considering ending his amazing career with a special match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium – a place he never played at as a local.

This event is also part of the celebrations for the stadium's 100th anniversary, which was last summer, but the main celebration is in 2026. Lope Afonso, the vice president of the Cabildo, confirmed that they're planning "very powerful events" and want to make sure fans really enjoy them.

Pedro and his team have already contacted the Cabildo, who own the Heliodoro stadium, to see when it would be available next summer. The Foundation is aiming for the summer of 2026, during the World Cup in the United States, when CD Tenerife is on holiday.

Pedro Rodríguez wants to "give back to the Tenerife fans all the affection and love" they've shown him over the years, from his time at FC Barcelona to Chelsea, Roma, and Lazio, and of course, with the Spanish national team where he won the World Cup and European Championship.

The current idea is a friendly match: "Friends of Pedro vs Friends of Silva." This would involve David Silva, another World Cup winner from the Canary Islands, and turn the game into a tribute to two of the region's greatest football stars.

The organizers are planning to invest heavily to make sure the event is world-class and reflects the amazing careers of Pedro and Silva. Pedro's idea has already started with his Foundation contacting the Cabildo. They're also looking for sponsors and inviting other World Cup winners to Tenerife for a historic weekend. Pedro mentioned in an interview that they're trying to bring together all the players from the 2010 World Cup-winning team in South Africa for a big event in 2026, and the Heliodoro match could be a part of that.

Pedro and Silva would captain two teams, with famous coaches, and lots of players from the Canary Islands. They'd also include players from the two main clubs, CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas. Pedro has a good relationship with CD Tenerife, so it should be easy for them to get involved, especially if they've just been promoted.

Imagine Iniesta, Xavi Hernández, Carles Puyol... The list of possible guests is incredible. And there are also Pedro and Silva's friends from the Canary Islands, like Teto, Kirian, David Rodríguez, Aarón Martín, Alberto Moleiro, and Ayoze Pérez (if he's not at the World Cup). It would be like a Canary Islands dream team playing at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.

The event would also include other activities for the guests. But for now, the project is waiting for the Cabildo's approval and support from sponsors to bring all the football legends (from the Canary Islands and the world) to Tenerife. Pedro wants this to be a spectacular final celebration of his career.

Born in Tenerife in 1987, Pedro joined Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, at a young age. Pep Guardiola gave him his chance with the first team, where he won every possible title, including the Champions League three times. He played at the Heliodoro before, but as a Barcelona player. He was the first footballer to score in every possible competition. And he won the World Cup in South Africa with his fellow Canary Islander, David Silva.

After a brilliant career, Pedro is now finishing strong in Italy's Serie A. But he wants to give something back to his island. If everything goes to plan, he'll make his dream a reality next June. He's already working on this project with his closest friends, and it could be the perfect ending to an amazing career.
