Garbage stench in Santa Cruz: Socialists accuse contractor of not washing containers.

The socialist representative, Patricia Hernández, accused the company Valoriza of improperly washing garbage containers in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, causing a stench, which the councilor for public services partially agreed with, blaming residents for negligence.

Patricia Hernández, a representative of the Socialists in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, says that the city smells terrible from the garbage containers because they are simply not being washed. She demands that the city authorities deal with this, because the company Valoriza, which is currently responsible for cleaning, is not doing its job well.

At the city council meeting, Hernández stated that this costs the city one million euros a year, with little effect. According to her, only one out of every three containers is washed, even though there are almost 9,400 of them in the city. And the underground containers in the center are also not being cleaned. She explained that she personally checked the routes of the washing machines (they have GPS) and counted all the containers. Conclusion: the company is not fulfilling the terms of the contract, and something needs to be done. According to the contract, each container should be washed once a week, but this is not happening.

In response, the councilor for communal affairs, Carlos Tarife, said that there are three machines in the city that are engaged in cleaning and washing sidewalks. He admitted that some containers smell, but, in his opinion, this is because people carelessly throw out garbage and leave bags near the containers.

Tarife also added that the cleaning contract is not ideal (he himself thinks so), but in 2019 it was presented as the best. To this, the socialist advised him to "stop defending Valoriza and not call the residents pigs."
