Paiba Marks 45th Anniversary with Christmas Album Release
Tenerife folk group Paiba is celebrating 45 years of preserving Canarian folklore with the release of their new Christmas album, Ya llegó la Navidad, this Saturday.
The folk group Paiba, from the fishing village of San Andrés in Tenerife's capital, is celebrating 45 years. They're marking this milestone with a new album, Ya llegó la Navidad, which will be released this Saturday.
The group was founded in 1980 by young people who loved traditional Canarian music. Paiba takes its name from a rural area in the Anaga mountains, between San Andrés and Taganana, known for its orchards and rich local traditions.
From the very beginning, Paiba has focused on preserving and sharing Canarian folklore. They do this by performing traditional songs alongside their own original music. Paiba has performed on many stages across the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. They've also shared the stage with famous folk artists like Los Sabandeños and Benito Cabrera, and appeared on well-known TV shows such as Tenderete, Taifa y Candil, Cantadores, and La Bodega de Julián.
Their new album celebrates Canarian Christmas traditions. The group describes it as "more than just an album; it's a warm embrace and a lively celebration of Canarian identity."
