Over 6,500 Applicants Attend Historic La Laguna Public Recruitment Drive
Over 6,500 applicants gathered at the Tenerife Trade Fair Center for La Laguna City Council’s largest public recruitment drive in two decades, aiming to fill 61 municipal positions by early 2027.
Thousands of people gathered at the Tenerife Trade Fair Center this Friday for a major La Laguna City Council recruitment drive, highlighting the high demand for stable public sector jobs in Spain. More than 6,500 applicants attended the event, marking the largest local public employment process in the last 20 years.
This initiative is part of the local government’s plan, led by Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, to renew and expand municipal staff by the end of 2026, with the goal of having new employees in place by early 2027. The scale of the event required a massive security operation, including police-escorted exam transport and the use of signal jammers to prevent cheating.
The 61 available positions cover a range of roles: 13 are reserved for internal promotions, while the remaining 48 include various administrative and technical roles. The City Council also plans to create a reserve list to help fill future vacancies more quickly.
To ensure fairness, the Council implemented an accessibility protocol for candidates with disabilities, providing resources such as extra time, ergonomic furniture, auditory aids, and large-print materials. Following this initial theory exam, the selection process will continue after the summer with practical tests, concluding what the City Council has called a historic and complex recruitment effort.
