Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano will serve as the guest of honor at the 20th anniversary of Fimucité, the world’s longest-running film music festival, held in Tenerife this July.

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a major milestone: Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano will serve as the event's guest of honor. According to festival organizers, this marks the first time the acclaimed New York composer has participated in a festival of this kind. His appearance, alongside previously announced guest Stephen Warbeck—the composer behind the Shakespeare in Love soundtrack—further cements Fimucité’s reputation as the world’s longest-running film music festival.

Corigliano, a Pulitzer Prize and five-time Grammy winner, is one of the most influential figures in modern music, known for his mastery of symphonic, operatic, and film scores. His involvement will culminate in the "Fimucité 20 Red Carpet Gala" on July 19 at the Auditorio de Tenerife. During the concert, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, led by festival founder and director Diego Navarro, will perform the Spanish premiere of the Chaconne from The Red Violin, the score that earned Corigliano an Academy Award.

The gala program will celebrate the history of cinema, featuring iconic themes from classics like Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Titanic, and The Lord of the Rings. Beyond the performances, the festival’s "Film Scoring Academy" will host training sessions and public discussions with both Corigliano and Warbeck, highlighting the event’s commitment to music education.

Now in its 20th year, the festival continues to boost Tenerife’s international profile. It is supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife, the "Tenerife Despierta Emociones" tourism brand, the city councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, and the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development. With the ongoing partnership of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Auditorio de Tenerife, the festival remains a cornerstone of the global film music circuit.
