Santa Cruz de Tenerife's Ofra-Costa Sur district has completed a €15,000 smart LED lighting project in the Los Príncipes Shopping Centre car park, significantly enhancing safety and services for residents and businesses.

The Ofra-Costa Sur district in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has taken a big step towards better city services and safety. The city council announced the completion of a new lighting project in the car park next to Los Príncipes Shopping Centre. This project, located between Príncipes de España Avenue and Maestro Estany Street, addresses a long-standing request from local residents and businesses.

The project cost 15,000 euros. It was unanimously agreed upon by the district's Tagoror, a local citizen group that helps decide what's most needed. This initiative is part of the city's wider plan to boost security using environmentally friendly technology.

The new system uses ten 50-watt LED lights, placed on eight-meter-high poles. These LED lights use smart solar power and have built-in sensors. When someone walks or drives by, the lights automatically get brighter. This makes the area safer and saves energy at night.

Technical measurements confirm the improvement is working. The car park now has an average brightness of 19 lux. This is brighter than what's normally expected for such a space, making people feel much safer.

City Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stressed how important these local projects are, saying they contribute to a city that is more sustainable and focused on its residents' well-being. District Councillor Santiago Díaz added that the new lights help prevent vandalism. He also noted their role in boosting the local economy and making it safer to move around Los Príncipes at night.
