Ofelio Serpa Explores Nature Through Ceramics in New 'Semilla Negra' Exhibition
Ofelio Serpa’s new exhibition, Semilla negra, opens this Friday at Espacio Bronzo in La Laguna, featuring twenty abstract ceramic sculptures that explore the themes of nature, growth, and transformation.
Espacio Bronzo is hosting a new exhibition that explores how ceramics can move beyond everyday use to become a medium for reflecting on nature. Titled Semilla negra (Black Seed), the project by designer and cultural manager Ofelio Serpa will open this Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the La Laguna gallery.
The exhibition, which features twenty sculptures, will be on display at 19 Núñez de la Peña Street until November 20. In these pieces, the Tenerife-born artist moves away from traditional figurative art to offer an abstract take on the shapes of primitive plants. Serpa focuses on textures, internal structures, and growth patterns, using clay to express themes of vitality and transformation.
This exhibition highlights the importance of independent galleries in the Canary Islands for showcasing contemporary sculpture, a field that is increasingly using ceramics to develop a modern artistic language. Serpa’s work goes beyond simply observing seeds as biological objects; he uses scale and spatial design to encourage viewers to think about the origins and evolution of organic life. By hosting this show, the La Laguna gallery continues its commitment to local artists, blending traditional craftsmanship with a conceptual look at the persistence of life.
