Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista Overhauls Tenerife Leadership to Challenge Island Governance
Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista has appointed Juan Daniel Fajardo to lead a new Tenerife executive team, aiming to challenge the island's current governance by championing left-wing nationalism and improved public services.
Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) has reorganized its leadership in Tenerife, marking a strategic shift aimed at tapping into growing public dissatisfaction with the island’s current management. During a meeting in La Laguna this Saturday, the party confirmed a new leadership team led by Juan Daniel Fajardo as island secretary. He will be supported by deputy secretary Leticia López and organization secretary Valentín Correa.
This new 15-member board, which has the backing of local committees, aims to position the party as the primary alternative to the left of the PSOE in the Tenerife Cabildo. The leadership has already begun highlighting what they see as critical failures in island governance, specifically pointing to strained healthcare services, overcrowded infrastructure, and ongoing mobility issues.
The new team is distancing itself from Coalición Canaria, accusing them of prioritizing minority interests over the needs of the general public. Fajardo is championing a form of left-wing nationalism that focuses on Canarian sovereignty and sustainable development rather than mass tourism and expansion. This direction has the full support of the party’s national leadership, who view Tenerife as essential to maintaining their influence in the regional Parliament.
This transition is a significant move for the party. With 16 councilors already serving across various municipalities, NC-BC plans to expand its local presence to gain more political influence. Their ultimate goal is to move away from the traditional dominance of Coalición Canaria by offering a platform centered on strengthening public services and promoting social justice.
