Nine companies have submitted bids for the €66.4 million project to build a third lane on the TF-5 motorway between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, aiming to ease congestion and improve connectivity in Tenerife.

Nine companies have submitted their proposals to build a third lane on the TF-5 motorway. This is a crucial project for improving travel around Tenerife. On Wednesday, the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility announced that it had received these bids for the work. The project covers the section between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, specifically for traffic heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The project has an estimated budget of 66,401,344.71 euros, including the Canary Islands General Indirect Tax. It aims to solve one of the most urgent traffic problems in the archipelago. The northern part of the TF-5 motorway experiences some of the heaviest traffic in the Canary Islands. This has led to constant demands for better infrastructure to ensure smoother and safer journeys.

The plan involves widening the road from two to three lanes for traffic heading towards Tenerife's capital. It also includes a major redesign of the Guamasa and San Lázaro junctions, which are currently traffic bottlenecks. A key part of the project is creating a new direct access to Tenerife North Airport. This is designed to separate traffic coming from and going to the north of the island.

This strategic change will allow vehicles from the northern area to reach the airport terminal directly via the new interchange, avoiding the San Lázaro junction. The main goal is to ease congestion on the part of the TF-5 that has historically caused the most traffic problems, improving the capacity and safety of this vital road for connectivity in Tenerife.
