Nighttime Roadworks to Begin on Tenerife’s TF-1 Motorway This Sunday
Tenerife’s TF-1 motorway will undergo overnight resurfacing work from October 25 to October 29, resulting in lane closures and traffic diversions between Santa Cruz and Güímar.
Starting this Sunday, October 25, the TF-1 motorway in Tenerife will undergo changes as part of the fifth phase of a road improvement project. To minimize traffic disruption, the work will take place only at night, between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and is scheduled to finish on the morning of Thursday, October 29.
This project is part of a larger €14 million initiative to resurface 18.6 kilometers of road between the capital and Güímar. The six-month plan aims to repair wear and tear on one of the busiest routes in the Canary Islands.
The upcoming work will affect two specific areas:
- Between kilometers 8.8 and 11.9: Traffic heading toward Santa Cruz will be diverted into a lane on the opposite side of the road, reducing capacity in both directions. Drivers can also use the Radazul service road toward Santa María del Mar as an alternative.
- Between kilometers 18.5 and 19.5: Near the Güímar and Arafo Industrial Estate, the road toward the capital will be closed, with traffic redirected into a temporary lane on the opposite side.
These changes will affect access at the Candelaria, Güímar, and Arafo interchanges, as well as bus stops in Barranco Hondo, Tabaiba, El Socorro, and the industrial estate.
Authorities advise drivers to plan their journeys ahead of time, drive carefully through work zones, and check for real-time updates from the Island Council’s Road Information Center. Due to the nature of the paving work, drivers are urged to follow all temporary signs closely to ensure safety.
