In La Laguna, complaints about motocross and jeeps are surfacing again: they are destroying nature and endangering people.
In La Laguna, cases of illegal motorcycle and jeep racing have once again been recorded, causing damage to nature and creating danger for local residents.
La Laguna is once again facing problems with motocross and jeeps. We recently reported that a fence installed to prevent this on the Montaña de La Atalaya mountain lasted only two days. Now, the Unidas se Puede party is reporting a new incident.
Local residents have complained, and the party has informed the municipal security and environmental departments that "there has been an increase in vehicle traffic on dirt roads, pastures, and protected areas between Jardina and Gonzalianes."
Rubens Ascanio, a representative of Unidas, said that near house number 79 on the Jardina road, there is a dirt road "that leads to places where people illegally race motorcycles and other vehicles. This creates problems for local residents, livestock, and bees."
"We are asking the police to increase patrols and conduct inspections because people say that they have even put up tires and other things to make it easier to race. This harms nature and is dangerous for both those who race and those who walk there," he explained.
Ascanio added that this is happening at the same time as the destruction of the fence in the El Pulpito area was discovered. The land there is severely damaged by these vehicles. The fence was installed after numerous complaints from local residents and by decision of the local council. "It is a pity that what the local authorities of La Laguna and Tegueste did with the support of the Cabildo has been vandalized. This needs to be investigated," the deputy said.
Ascanio believes that "we need to continue working with groups that bring together fans of this sport to explain the situation to them and find places where they can practice it legally, without endangering people or harming nature."
