Jesús Ezequiel Domínguez has been sworn in as the new mayor of San Juan de la Rambla following a successful motion of no confidence that ousted Juan Ramos amid ongoing political instability.

Political instability has returned to San Juan de la Rambla. A new coalition—made up of the PSOE, AUP-Si se puede, and Nueva Canarias—has successfully passed a motion of no confidence, removing nationalist mayor Juan Ramos from office.

Jesús Ezequiel Domínguez has been sworn in as the new mayor, taking over with just seven months left in the current term. His appointment comes during a period of political fragmentation, where disagreements over project management and administration have stalled local progress. In his inaugural speech, Domínguez promised to prioritize neighborhood maintenance, clear the backlog of municipal paperwork, and improve transparency to restore normal operations at City Hall.

The plenary session was marked by heated debate. The outgoing mayor, Juan Ramos, questioned the timing of the move, arguing that changing leadership so close to the end of the term will not solve the town's administrative issues. Ramos blamed his former partner, Juan Siverio of AUP-Si se puede, for the delays, while defending his own record on transparency.

The session also highlighted internal divisions within AUP-Si se puede. Councilor Yanira Mesa, who attended despite being on medical leave, openly criticized the motion, calling the process a "circus" and questioning whether it would actually benefit the public. Meanwhile, the former governing team—which included the CC, PP, and AUP-Si se puede until three weeks ago—accused the PSOE of intentionally obstructing their work by filing over 200 formal requests to hinder the local executive.

This change in leadership reflects the ongoing challenges of coalition governments in the Canary Islands, where fragile political pacts often collapse over disputes regarding public services and budget management. While the motion of no confidence is a legal tool, this latest development underscores the instability that can arise when local government majorities shift.
