Cinemas this week offer a diverse lineup of new releases, including the romantic comedy Roofman. A Thief on the Roof, historical thriller Frontera, personal drama Fragmentos, emotional drama La vida fuera, and Christmas animation El rey de reyes, alongside a special 40th-anniversary remastered re-release of The Goonies.

This week, cinemas are offering a diverse lineup of films. New releases include the romantic comedy Roofman. A Thief on the Roof, the historical thriller Frontera (set in Spain in 1943), Horacio Alcalá's personal drama Fragmentos (filmed in Lanzarote), Mario Martone's touching La vida fuera, and the Christmas animation El rey de reyes. Plus, for fans of 80s movies, The Goonies is back on the big screen with a remastered version to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Leading the new releases is Roofman. A Thief on the Roof, a romantic comedy from Oscar nominee Derek Cianfrance. This film is based on the true story of a clever criminal. It features a strong cast with great chemistry, including Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Juno Temple, and Ben Mendelsohn. The movie follows Jeffrey Manchester, an unusual thief who robbed many restaurants, broke out of prison, and even hid in a toy store for months.

Frontera is a historical thriller directed by Judith Colell. Set in Spain in 1943, it tells the story of a group of brave individuals who defy fear to help people escaping Nazism. The film stars Miki Esparbé, María Rodríguez Soto, and Asier Etxeandía, supported by a strong international cast playing these unsung heroes. The plot centers on Manel, a civil servant with a Republican background, who takes on a dangerous mission. This mission brings up painful memories of the Civil War within his own family.

For a more personal story, there's Fragmentos, a drama by Horacio Alcalá filmed in Lanzarote. It stars three-time Goya Award winner Emma Suárez, Manu Vega, Asia Ortega, and Horacio Alcalá himself. The film explores the intertwined lives of two couples whose relationships are falling apart. Diego and Alba try to fix their troubled marriage on a volcanic island, while their hosts find their own seemingly happy life put at risk.

Another new release is La vida fuera, an emotional Italian drama directed by Mario Martone and co-written with Ippolita Di Majo. It features a cast including Valeria Golino, Matilda De Angelis, Elodie, and Corrado Fortuna. The film tells the story of a writer who goes to prison after an impulsive act. There, she forms strong, genuine friendships with a group of young inmates. These connections last even after she is released, defying what others might expect. Distributed by Avalon, this movie looks at friendships made during hard times and the lasting impact of being in prison.

Finally, for some family-friendly magic, there's El rey de reyes. This Christmas animated film from Angel Studios is coming to Spanish cinemas after becoming a big hit in the United States. The original English version boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, and Pierce Brosnan. The movie features Charles Dickens as both narrator and character, telling his son the story of Jesus's life as a bedtime tale that turns into an exciting adventure.

This week also brings a major nostalgic re-release: The Goonies is back in cinemas. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, a remastered version will be shown in Spanish cinemas this weekend only. Originally released in 1985, this film, directed by Richard Donner and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, was an instant box office hit. It became an 80s classic, loved by generations for its mix of adventure, humor, and teamwork. It's a story many discover as children and enjoy again as adults.
