The new Fuera de Campo Film School has launched in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, offering university-accredited, hands-on training to bolster the Canary Islands' growing audiovisual industry.

The audiovisual industry in the Canary Islands is growing with the launch of the Fuera de Campo Film School. Located in the El Chapatal neighborhood of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this new school was created by the team behind El Viaje Films. It aims to provide hands-on technical and creative training by partnering with the University of La Laguna (ULL).

Led by Jose Alayón, the project builds on the work of the Institute for Film Training and Research (IFIC), which has spent the last decade connecting emerging talent with established figures in independent cinema. Fuera de Campo offers four university micro-credentials, allowing students to earn ECTS credits recognized across the European Higher Education Area.

Classes begin on April 5 at the school’s headquarters on Pintor Martín González Street. The curriculum focuses on essential industry skills, including location management, executive production, international distribution, and project financing. Each module consists of 20 hours of practical, afternoon-based instruction. Thanks to a subsidy for Spanish citizens aged 25 to 64 with a Baccalaureate degree or equivalent, tuition is priced at just 43.50 euros.

This initiative aims to give local creators the tools they need to compete in the global market while addressing the demand for technical expertise in the region. Registration is handled through the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna. For questions regarding enrollment or course details, students can email coordinacion@programadecine.com. By launching this school, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is further establishing itself as a key film production hub, dedicated to professionalizing the local creative industry.
