New Field Guide to Canary Islands Birdlife Launches in Buenavista del Norte
The new field guide All the Birds of the Canary Islands, authored by researchers Beneharo and Airam Rodríguez, launches tonight in Buenavista del Norte to document the region's 418 avian species.
A new guide to the Canary Islands' rich birdlife is being launched tonight at the Casa de la Cultura in Buenavista del Norte. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the presentation will introduce All the Birds of the Canary Islands, a book designed to be the go-to manual for anyone interested in the region's avian species.
Published by Zech and written by researchers Beneharo Rodríguez and Airam Rodríguez, the book is both practical and comprehensive. In just 288 pages, it catalogs all 418 bird species recorded in the islands. This includes the region's unique endemic birds—nine species and nearly forty subspecies—as well as the many migratory birds that use the islands as a winter home, a stopover, or an accidental landing spot.
The guide is designed to be carried in the field and features over 800 images to help birdwatchers accurately identify different species. Beyond its practical use, the book highlights the Canary Islands' vital role as a hub for Atlantic bird migration. Biologist David P. Padilla will be at the launch to discuss how this new resource will help improve the conservation and understanding of the islands' natural heritage.
