New 112-Unit Affordable Housing Complex to Open in Tenerife by 2027
The new Las Calandrias residential complex in Tenerife is set to provide 112 energy-efficient, affordable homes for local workers by 2027 to help address the region's ongoing housing crisis.
The housing crisis in the Canary Islands, driven by a shortage of homes for local residents, is seeing a new development in the south of Tenerife. A new residential complex, Las Calandrias, is set to open in 2027 in the Las Chafiras district of San Miguel de Abona, adding 112 properties to the local market.
This project is designed specifically to provide affordable housing for local workers, who have been hit hard by rising property prices. The buildings are highly energy-efficient, featuring an A-rated energy certification and aerothermal systems to help residents lower their utility bills. Additionally, the complex includes reinforced soundproofing to ensure comfort despite its proximity to the airport.
The location is strategically chosen for the local workforce. Situated less than five minutes from the highway and Tenerife South Airport, the complex offers easy access for employees in the tourism and aviation sectors. The area is also well-served by nearby supermarkets, shopping centers, and sports facilities, allowing residents to rely less on private cars.
The development offers a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, each including a parking space and a storage unit. Every home features a terrace, and the ground floors are equipped with dedicated laundry areas to maximize living space. To encourage a sense of community, the developer has opted for a low-density design, with each entrance serving only six homes. This project represents a significant effort to provide stable, modern housing for residents living in an area heavily impacted by tourism.
