Netflix’s ‘Oasis’ Showcases Tenerife as Premier Filming Destination
Netflix’s upcoming 2026 suspense series Oasis highlights Tenerife’s diverse landscapes as a premier filming destination, featuring an ensemble cast in a mystery set against the island's iconic luxury resorts and rugged terrain.
Netflix’s upcoming 2026 series, Oasis, has once again put the Canary Islands at the heart of international filmmaking, cementing the archipelago’s reputation as a premier destination for suspense dramas. Often compared to hits like The White Lotus, the show blends police intrigue with a stunning backdrop where the Tenerife landscape plays a starring role.
The series features an ensemble cast including Paco Tous, Ana Garcés, Tomy Aguilera, Victoria Kantch, and Verónica Sánchez. The plot follows the mysterious disappearance of a young woman, an event that shatters the calm of a luxury vacation resort. In the show, this fictional "Oasis Infinity" is actually the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Alcalá, famous for housing one of Europe’s largest saltwater pools. This resort serves as the central stage for the personal conflicts that unfold over the season’s eight episodes.
The production team made the most of Tenerife’s diverse geography to give the series a distinct visual style. They transformed La Jaquita beach to emphasize its rugged beauty and utilized the port of Garachico, where the nearby volcanic formations of El Caletón add a unique aesthetic to the maritime scenes. The show also heads west to the towering cliffs of Los Gigantes in Santiago del Teide, capturing the area’s dramatic verticality and rich marine life, including local whale and dolphin populations.
For the final episodes, the setting shifts from the luxury of the south to the stark, arid landscapes of the southeast. The crew filmed at the abandoned 1940s-era Abades sanatorium and the 39-meter-tall Punta de Abona lighthouse, creating a sharp atmospheric contrast to the earlier scenes.
This trend of "screen tourism" is a major boost for the islands' economy. Tenerife’s appeal to streaming platforms goes beyond tax incentives; it lies in the island's versatility, offering everything from high-end resorts to raw, industrial, and natural environments. With Oasis, the local landscape is more than just a backdrop—it is a silent, essential character in the story.
