Near Tragedy as Tourists Enter Closed Tenerife Pool

A viral video shows reckless tourists narrowly escaping tragedy at Tenerife's closed Charco de la Laja de Sal natural pool, prompting renewed warnings about dangerous coastal stunts.

A dangerous stunt at a natural pool in Tenerife recently came close to ending in tragedy. The natural pool, known as Charco de la Laja de Sal in Puerto de la Cruz, has been closed to swimmers and abandoned since 2008. This coastal spot is unsupervised and becomes extremely dangerous for swimming, especially during sea storms.

Recently, a video posted by @socorristaspuerto went viral on social media. It showed some reckless tourists entering this closed, unsupervised area. In the video, the sea can be seen crashing powerfully against the structure, with waves violently surging into the natural pool.

This incident happened despite ongoing efforts to prevent such situations. Tragic deaths occurred last November in similar coastal areas, which could have been avoided if people had followed safety advice during storms. The powerful sea combined with the rough, volcanic landscape of the Canary Islands' natural pools makes these places dangerous and best avoided.
