Naturajazz Festival Returns to MUNA with African Rhythms, Improvised Jazz, and Nature Photography
The Naturajazz festival at MUNA in Santa Cruz de Tenerife continues this Friday and Saturday with performances by the Michel Mbarga Quartet and the Ancor Miranda Quartet, alongside nature photography exhibitions and an underwater film screening, all free with advance online booking.
The Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting more sessions of Naturajazz, its festival combining jazz music and nature photography. This Friday and Saturday, the events kick off at 8:00 PM. The concert originally scheduled for Thursday has been moved to Friday due to the weather.
On Friday, the Michel Mbarga Quartet from Cameroon will perform. They promise to bring the energy and variety of modern African music to the audience. Michel Mbarga, known as one of Central Africa's top guitarists, mixes traditional Cameroonian sounds like mvet and balafon with jazz, blues, reggae, makossa, and afro-pop. His music is a blend that crosses borders. Mbarga and his bandmates, Brice Ndjana Atangana Mekongo, Yves William Ombe Monkama, and Beaugelin Joseph Tamdjo Tala, will deliver a lively concert featuring rhythm, soul, and impressive skill.
During this session, you'll also see two photography exhibitions. "Joyas del neotrópico" (Jewels of the Neotropics) by Mario Suárez celebrates the natural wonders of Colombia and Panama. "Vida chinija" (Tiny Life) by Amanhuy Duque showcases the often-unseen beauty of small invertebrates from the Canary Islands in their natural homes.
On Saturday, the Ancor Miranda Quartet will take the stage. They're offering a fresh musical experience, focusing on improvisation and how the musicians interact, with no harmonic instrument. Miranda, along with José Vera, Cristopher Pérez, and David Muñoz, aims to take the audience on a musical journey filled with creativity, daring choices, and real-time musical conversation. Each performance is like a live dialogue, moving between modern and classic jazz with a bold, experimental touch.
The Saturday concert will feature the screening of "El pulso del océano" (The Pulse of the Ocean) by Jesús Yeray Delgado. This series of 20 underwater photos, taken around the world, highlights the beauty and vulnerability of marine life and calls for the protection of our oceans. Also showing will be "Islas Canarias. Territorio limitado, avifauna sin límites" (Canary Islands. Limited Territory, Unlimited Avifauna) by Sebastián Francisco Pagés, which offers a close and detailed look at the diverse birdlife of the Canary Islands.
All concerts are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be booked on the website museosdetenerife.org two days before each event, starting at 10:00 AM.
