MUNA to Host Flashback Record Store Day Celebrating Canary Islands Electronic Music Culture
The Museum of Nature and Archaeology in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host "Flashback Record Store Day" on April 18, a day-long event celebrating Canarian electronic music culture through exhibitions, live performances, and academic discussions.
On Saturday, April 18, the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a landmark event celebrating vinyl and electronic music culture in the Canary Islands. Supported by the Canary Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC), "Flashback Record Store Day" aims to bring together industry professionals—including producers, label owners, documentarians, and designers—and the general public.
The event is divided into two main parts. In the morning, entry to the museum is free. Visitors can browse a second-hand record market and explore the Tenerife Rave Archive, a graphic exhibition documenting the history of electronic music in the islands. This morning session runs until 3:00 PM and features a "vermouth hour" with food, drinks, and live performances by The Piri Expirience and Rober.
The afternoon shifts to the museum’s conference hall for a series of talks and screenings, which requires a 10-euro ticket. Starting at 12:00 PM, Fernando Ledesma will give a presentation, followed by a screening of the documentary Rave Culture, directed by Eduardo Cubillo and DJ Jonay. The academic portion concludes with a panel discussion moderated by Job Ledesma, focusing on the evolution and impact of the local electronic music scene.
From 5:00 PM, the focus moves to live performances, showcasing a range of music from 80s and 90s classics to modern avant-garde styles. The MUNA lineup includes Anthony Play, The Piri Expirience, Stereopack, and Fran Cabello, with music continuing until midnight.
The celebration continues after hours at the Bulan club, where the party runs from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The nighttime lineup features sets by Mones b2b Jose Hdez, Fran Tzones, Adrián Escobar b2b Mostany, and Maura, rounding out a full day dedicated to record collecting, historical preservation, and the vibrant Canarian electronic music scene.
