The Museum of Nature and Archaeology in Tenerife has launched "Canary Islands in Detail," an exhibition running until June 20 that uses macro photography to showcase the unique biological adaptations of the archipelago's wildlife.

The Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has launched a new exhibition, Canary Islands in Detail: The Nature of the Archipelago Seen Up Close. Open until June 20, the display offers a unique, technical look at how island wildlife adapts to its environment.

The exhibition features items from the Museum of Natural Sciences of Tenerife, taking visitors on a journey from mountain peaks to the ocean floor. Through large-format photography, the display reveals biological structures that are normally too small to see with the naked eye. Beyond their visual appeal, these images highlight how genetic variety and species specialization help plants and animals survive in isolated habitats, such as pine forests, laurel woodlands, and coastal areas.

At the opening ceremony, José Carlos Acha, the Cabildo’s Minister of Culture, Museums, and Sports, joined scientific director Carlos Pallés and curator Alejandro de Vera to discuss the museum’s role in research and education. The local administration emphasized that such exhibitions are vital for raising environmental awareness, as they make the complex adaptations of local biodiversity easier to understand.

The exhibition is organized to guide visitors through different levels of biology, from individual physical traits to entire ecological systems. With this project, MUNA continues its commitment to scientific outreach, bridging the gap between direct observation and the evolutionary processes that define the Canary Islands.
