MUNA Launches "Avifauna of the Canary Islands" Book
MUNA, OAMC, and Turquesa Ediciones are set to launch "Avifauna of the Canary Islands" on December 10, a new book by Aurelio Martín and co-authors that compiles the latest research on the archipelago's bird life, including genetic and fossil discoveries.
The Association of Friends of the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) is teaming up with the Autonomous Organization of Museums and Centers (OAMC) and Turquesa Ediciones, a publishing house run by José Manuel Moreno, to launch a new book. This Wednesday, December 10, they will present "Avifauna of the Canary Islands," written by Aurelio Martín, Juan José Bacallado, Juan Antonio Lorenzo, and Vicente Quilis.
The launch event will take place at MUNA in Tenerife's capital, starting at 7:00 p.m. Professor Manuel Nogales Hidalgo, a research professor from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), will be speaking.
Over the past few decades, there have been big changes in the bird life of the Canary Islands. Some bird species have decreased in number, while others have started breeding there. This new book covers the latest genetic research on bird classification from the last twenty years. It also includes new discoveries about ancient birds found in fossils.
With over a thousand pages and many photographs, the book aims to bring together all the latest information and understanding about the birds of the Canary Islands.
