A 27-year-old motorcyclist has died at a Tenerife hospital following a collision in La Laguna that is now being investigated as vehicular manslaughter.
A 27-year-old motorcyclist from La Barranquera has died following a road accident in La Laguna last Thursday. The man passed away at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) after spending more than 48 hours in critical condition with severe injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Camino El Guincho, a road linking La Barranquera and Valle de Guerra. According to the La Laguna Local Police’s Traffic Accident Unit, the collision happened when an Opel Frontera SUV reversed into the path of the motorcycle. Damage to the rear of the vehicle suggests the driver may have had limited visibility or failed to take necessary precautions while maneuvering.
Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium, local police, and two ambulance units, responded to the scene. The motorcyclist was treated for severe trauma and the partial amputation of a leg before being rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation has now been reclassified as vehicular manslaughter. Authorities are working to determine if the driver’s actions involved criminal negligence, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by motorcyclists on secondary roads.
