Moroccan Teen Arrested for Alleged Assault on British Roommate in Tenerife Juvenile Center
A Moroccan teenager at a La Laguna juvenile detention center was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his British roommate, who himself was awaiting trial for a prior alleged sexual assault.
A Moroccan teenager has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his roommate at the Valle Tabares juvenile detention center in La Laguna.
The alleged incident took place within the center, which houses young people who have committed crimes.
The Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police at the La Laguna Police Station is investigating the case.
The victim, a 16-year-old British boy, reportedly told his family about the assault during a visit.
His family then went to the police to file a complaint.
Standard procedures have been activated to protect the victim and preserve potential evidence.
The room where the alleged assault occurred, shared by both the suspect and the victim, was sealed off and guarded while investigators from the Scientific Police Brigade and UFAM searched it.
The suspect was already at the Valle Tabares center, having been sent there for previous offenses committed in the Las Palmas province.
The victim himself was arrested last August for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 22-year-old British tourist at a hotel in Playa de las Américas.
That incident reportedly happened on July 31, and was investigated by the National Police.
Police stated that their quick response, resulting in the teenager's arrest, prevented further attacks.
Hotel security cameras helped reconstruct the event and locate the suspect, who was arrested at the pool of a nearby hotel where he was vacationing with his family.
Reports at the time indicated that the teenager entered the victim's hotel room and attempted to sexually assault her during the day.
However, the young woman resisted, screamed, and managed to escape to get help. Following his arrest, the teenager was placed in the care of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, who ordered him to be held at the Valle Tabares detention center.
Authorities have ruled that he must remain on the island until the legal proceedings related to the earlier alleged assault are concluded.
