Santa Cruz de Tenerife will allocate over 316,000 euros to improve road safety, including updating signs, improving sidewalks, and installing "smart" pedestrian crossings.
The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) will allocate over 316,000 euros to improve road safety. The money will go to seven sections where they plan to update road signs and make them more visible.
In particular, old pedestrian crossing signs will be replaced with new ones with LEDs. Signs warning of danger near schools will also be installed, and more convenient sidewalks for people with disabilities will be created.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, says that these changes will help solve problems that residents have long complained about, such as in the Pico Teide area. The works will last 8 months, and the main goal is to make the roads safer for everyone.
Transport Councilor Evelyn Alonso said that a roundabout will be built at the intersection of the avenue with Volcán Chaorra Street to make traffic more organized. Special tactile paving will also be installed there for people with visual impairments.
In addition, safety will be improved on Marrero Torres Street, signs will be updated on El Rosario Street, and sidewalks will be widened near the church on Rambla García Escámez. Road markings will be made brighter, and speed limit signs will be installed in dangerous areas.
A "smart" pedestrian crossing with lighting and sensors that react to people will appear on Los Patos Square. There will also be tactile paving there.
LED signs will be installed on the pedestrian crossing near Masca and Simón Bolívar Streets on Alcalde Mandillo Tejera Street. And on Benito Pérez Armas Street, a convenient 2-meter-wide sidewalk will be built.
Additional signs will be installed on Ganivet Street near the pedestrian crossing, and a new pedestrian crossing will be built and sidewalks widened on Sansón y Barrios Street. To prevent cars from parking wherever they want, flower beds will be installed on Princesa Guayamina Street.
