Mobile 'Furgencia' Unit Brings First Aid Training to Southern Tenerife

First aid training in the south of Tenerife has become much more accessible thanks to a new mobile emergency unit. According to Diario de Avisos, the project—known as "Furgencia"—aims to bring vital life-saving skills directly to the public, removing the need for people to travel to specialized training centers.

Launched by the Granadilla de Abona Department of Emergencies and Civil Protection, the initiative is designed to make essential knowledge available to everyone. The eye-catching mobile unit focuses on two key areas: cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver. To ensure hands-on practice, the team uses mannequins equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and special training vests that allow participants to practice clearing blocked airways safely.

This mobile approach aims to make emergency response a normal part of everyday life. The project has already been well-received by both local residents and curious passersby, and its success in La Gomera has led other municipalities across the islands to consider adopting the model.

The 'Furgencia' unit is currently traveling to various locations. After a stop at the El Médano promenade, it will be at the Los Abrigos pier on Saturday, June 29, before returning to Granadilla the following day. The program is set to continue well beyond the summer; authorities plan to expand into more densely populated areas this November and will begin a series of educational talks in local schools starting in September, building a stronger, more prepared community.
