The Canary Health Service is deploying mobile blood donation units to Granadilla de Abona through August 7 to bolster regional blood reserves during the summer.

Maintaining stable blood reserves in the Canary Islands relies heavily on mobile donation drives. According to the Canary Health Service (SCS), a mobile unit will be visiting Granadilla de Abona until August 7 to make it easier for residents and visitors in the south of Tenerife to donate. This strategy is vital for keeping hospitals supplied with the blood needed for surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergencies.

The mobile unit’s schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, August 5: Next to the Almer building. Open from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 6:
    • Plaza de la Cultura, San Isidro: 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
    • Calle Evaristo Gómez González, El Médano: 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday, August 7: Calle Evaristo Gómez González, El Médano. Open from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Beyond these mobile visits, the Canary Islands health system has permanent donation centers to ensure a steady supply. In Granadilla, the San Isidro Health Center has a dedicated space for donors, including parking; you can reach them at 677 980 518. Other permanent locations include the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, and the center on Calle Méndez Núñez in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In the north, the San Juan de Dios Hospital is open for donations Monday through Friday, while Hospiten Bellevue in Puerto de la Cruz accepts donations by appointment.

Before donating, medical staff will perform a brief health check to ensure you are eligible. If you have questions about the process or requirements, you can call the toll-free donor service line at 900 234 061. Public participation is essential to keeping blood stocks healthy, especially during the summer when demand remains high.
