A police dog has located the body of a 76-year-old Telde man missing since February 12, bringing an extensive search to an end.

Police dogs have found the body of a 76-year-old man from Telde, who was reported missing on February 12. The discovery, which brings an intense search to an end, happened yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) near Sima de Jinámar. The body was found on a dirt and gravel path, and there were no obvious signs of violence.

The find was made possible by Rony, a Springer Spaniel from the National Police's Special Canine Handler Unit. Rony is specially trained for two tasks: finding drugs and locating human remains. This is a very specialized skill. Currently, only police dog units in Madrid and the Canary Islands have dogs with this specific training, highlighting how important their work is in complex investigations.

Rony and his handler have worked together for three years. Their past work includes helping with searches after floods caused by the DANA storm, and recently finding another body in the Anaga area of Tenerife.

The investigation started after a family member reported the man missing early on the day he disappeared. Immediately, the Telde Police Station's Local Judicial Police Brigade launched a major search. This involved police, family members, neighbors, and various emergency services, who searched different parts of the municipality.

After the discovery, judicial authorities have taken over the case to fully understand what happened. The National Police thanked the public for their help and everyone involved in the search.
