The National Geographic Institute recorded a minor 1.9-magnitude earthquake near Vilaflor de Chasna in Tenerife this morning, causing no damage or public concern.

The National Geographic Institute (IGN) recorded a minor earthquake in the Canary Islands this morning. The 1.9-magnitude tremor occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located inland near Vilaflor de Chasna in northwestern Tenerife.

This seismic activity is considered a normal part of the archipelago’s volcanic nature. Because the earthquake was so weak, it went largely unnoticed by residents, and authorities reported no damage or emergencies.

These small tremors are common in the region and are closely monitored by the IGN. While they provide scientists with valuable data to help map the area's subsoil, they pose no threat to the public and have no impact on daily life.
