Internationally recognized Canary Islands musician David Minguillón, a Berklee alumnus, is shifting focus to singer-songwriter music with his new project "Layam. The calm after the storm," emphasizing lyrics and healing, set to launch March 26 at the ULL Paraninfo.

David Minguillón, a musician from the Canary Islands known internationally and trained at institutions like Berklee, is starting a new chapter in his career. He's now focusing on singer-songwriter music, putting more emphasis on lyrics and singing than on his usual instrumental work.

His new project, called "Layam. The calm after the storm," is all about "telling, singing, and healing," as Minguillón puts it. He wants to connect with his audience in a more direct and personal way. This means his guitar, while still present, will take a backseat to his voice and storytelling.

Minguillón has had a notable career as a guitarist, releasing albums like "Puerto del Mar" (featuring Jorge Pardo) and "Diálogo con un duende." He studied at the Maastricht Conservatory of Music and earned a master's in Contemporary Performance at Berklee Valencia. He's also bringing sound therapy into his music, aiming to create a deeper, more resonant connection with listeners, which fits perfectly with his theme of healing.

A concert at Madrid's Café Libertad 8 in June 2025 was a key moment for this new artistic direction. The project will officially launch on March 26 at 8:00 PM at the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna (ULL). Tiago Brauna on drums and Iñaki Allende on electric bass will join him, adding to the sound of his new songs.

This project has strong support from various institutions, showing its cultural importance in the Canary Islands. The Canarian Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC), part of the Canary Islands Government, helped fund the album's recording. The launch concert itself is backed by the Pedro García Cabrera Chair at ULL and the Paraninfo, bringing together musical skill with a heartfelt emotional journey.
