The Mi Pueblo Lee festival arrives in El Sauzal, Tenerife, from April 9 to 11, featuring literary presentations by Marta Robles and Sonsoles Ónega alongside community-focused workshops and cultural events.

The Mi Pueblo Lee festival is coming to Tenerife, marking a major step in bringing culture to more areas across the Canary Islands and establishing El Sauzal as a key literary destination. On April 9, the town will host a program that goes beyond standard book launches, focusing on education and community engagement.

The highlight of the day is an appearance by journalist and author Marta Robles. She will present her latest novel, Amada Carlota, at the El Barco de Papel cultural space at 7:00 p.m. The book features detective Tony Roures and uses the noir genre to explore the sensitive topic of stolen babies in Spain—a reflection of a growing trend in Spanish literature to use fiction to address long-silenced social traumas.

Robles’ visit isn't just for adults. Earlier that morning, she will visit the Samoga school to speak with students. This is part of the festival’s ongoing mission—which recently earned a National Award for the Promotion of Reading—to inspire younger generations. Following a recent visit by writer Pepe Maestro, these school sessions aim to use literature to encourage critical thinking.

The festival continues throughout the weekend with a variety of events designed for all types of readers. On Friday, April 10, at 8:00 p.m., the Solo Palique podcast will record a live show at the El Sauzal Theater (tickets are €5).

The festival concludes on Saturday at the Plaza del Príncipe. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the plaza will host an open-air book market featuring children’s activities, workshops, and sports demonstrations. The afternoon will shift to performances, including poetry, rap, and storytelling.

The final day will also feature author Sonsoles Ónega, who will present her work at 6:00 p.m. Her appearance will be preceded by a roundtable discussion with local authors Óscar Liam, Arantxa Rufo, and Ana González Duque, and followed by an acoustic performance by Bryan Rodríguez. By showcasing both local Canarian talent and nationally recognized writers, Mi Pueblo Lee continues its mission to turn public spaces into vibrant hubs for reading, debate, and community connection.
