Metrotenerife Announces Tram Service Changes Jan 31-Feb 2 for Track Maintenance
Metrotenerife will implement service changes from January 31st to February 2nd, suspending Line 2 and partially operating Line 1 with a replacement bus service, due to essential track maintenance.
Metrotenerife has announced changes to its tram services from Saturday, January 31st, to Monday, February 2nd, due to essential maintenance work on the tram tracks.
During these days:
- Line 1 will only run between Intercambiador and Chimisay. A replacement bus service will operate between Chimisay and La Trinidad, stopping near the affected tram stations.
- Line 2 will be suspended.
- The weekend night service on Line 1 will also be suspended.
The maintenance work is scheduled to take advantage of the public holiday weekend, when fewer people use the trams, to minimise disruption for passengers. The work involves preparing sections of the tram tracks for future replacement and repositioning of rails in areas such as the Taco, Hospital, and Padre Anchieta tunnels. This is all part of Metrotenerife's ongoing preventive maintenance plan, which began last December.
The nature of the work requires continuous access to the tracks, making normal tram operations impossible during this period. The changes will be in effect from 7:00 AM on Saturday, January 31st, until 12:00 AM on Monday, February 2nd.
Alternative Bus Service To ensure passengers can still travel, Metrotenerife has partnered with TITSA to provide a replacement bus service. This service will cover the Line 1 route between Chimisay and La Trinidad, stopping close to each of the affected tram stops.
Full Service Resumes Tuesday, February 3rd The maintenance work is expected to finish by the night of Monday, February 2nd. This means that full tram service, with normal timetables across the entire network, will resume on Tuesday, February 3rd.
