Marino Stuns Tenerife C 2-0
El Marino secured a surprise 2-0 victory over Tenerife C, with Pirri scoring both goals in the first half.
El Marino secured a surprise 2-0 victory over Tenerife C at the Javier Pérez Sports City. The match began with both teams having spells of control. However, just past the halfway point of the first half, Pirri scored to give Marino the lead, and then added a second goal before half-time. After the break, Tenerife C pushed forward, but Marino defended strongly and held onto their advantage.
Marino started brightly, with Facu Valiente and Jesús both shooting just wide in the opening minutes. Tenerife C took some time to settle but gradually found their rhythm, with Manu Montero creating their first clear chance, firing a shot over the bar. At the other end, Carlos tested Tenerife C goalkeeper Iván with a header from a corner.
In the 25th minute, with the game finely balanced, Lie won a penalty, which Pirri calmly converted to make it 1-0. The goal seemed to rattle Rayco García's side. Just minutes later, Pirri struck again, scoring with a cross-shot after a scramble in the penalty area. Before the break, Facu Pérez had a chance to extend Marino's lead even further but couldn't find the target, leaving the score at 2-0 at half-time.
Tenerife C made three substitutions at half-time and came out with renewed energy. However, they faced a very solid Marino defence that closed down spaces and gave goalkeeper David little to do. Bruno and Noda (twice) were the only Tenerife C players who managed to get shots away, but none of them troubled the target.
In the closing stages, Marino had a chance to add a third goal when Pirri spotted Iván Alonso off his line and tried a long-range shot. But the Tenerife C goalkeeper reacted quickly to deny Pirri his hat-trick, though he couldn't prevent the defeat.
