The exhibition explores themes of geographic memory and personal identity, focusing on the fragility of our ties to our origins. The artist, Marco Alom (born in Santiago del Teide in 1986), based the project on a 2015 trip back to his hometown after a long absence. Reconnecting with a figure from his childhood and revisiting his former home sparked a reflection on how time erodes our surroundings and changes our perspective.
Technically, Alom uses drawing to give shape to abstract ideas about loss and the changing landscape. His work goes beyond simple visual representation, questioning whether art can truly capture a reality that is constantly fading. Rather than relying on simple nostalgia, Alom investigates how our environment—from decaying materials to the way we turn lived spaces into personal myths—shapes how we remember the past.
