Mar Abierto Group recently announced updates for two of its music festivals in Madrid. These are the Mar Abierto Festival, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary, and the Tenerife Peñón Fest. The announcements were made during the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) and highlighted the festivals' appeal as both tourist and cultural events, according to Mar Abierto director Jairo Núñez.

The Mar Abierto Festival has added José Mercé and Ainhoa Arteta to its lineup. The festival will feature around 20 concerts from 11 artists. Earlier announcements included Bebe, Luz Casal, and Víctor Manuel. Tickets can be bought at www.festivalmarabierto.com.

José Mercé, a key figure in flamenco, is known for blending tradition with modern styles. His long career has made him a leading name in the genre. His powerful voice and unique approach to flamenco will add depth and authenticity to the festival's diverse program. Mercé will perform on May 2nd at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Gran Canaria.

Soprano Ainhoa Arteta will take the stage on May 10th at the Jerónimo Saavedra Hall, also within the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. She is one of Spain's most internationally renowned sopranos, having performed in major opera houses worldwide. Her concert will bring high-quality lyrical music to the Mar Abierto Festival, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Other confirmed artists include Bebe, a significant voice in contemporary Spanish music, performing in Gran Canaria on May 1st and Tenerife on May 2nd. Luz Casal, a benchmark of Spanish musical heritage, returns to the Canary Islands on June 7th for a concert at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. Víctor Manuel will present his new album, "Solo a solas conmigo" (2025), on November 8th, also at the auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

With these artists confirmed so far, Mar Abierto director Jairo Núñez expects over 30,000 people to attend this year's festival.

Over its two-decade history, the Mar Abierto Festival has hosted many famous artists, including Pastora Soler, Guitarricadelafuente, Manuel Carrasco, Dani Martín, Maluma, Juan Luis Guerra, and Macaco.

Meanwhile, the Tenerife Peñón Fest will continue to showcase the best Spanish pop-rock and indie music on October 23rd and 24th. For its ninth edition, the festival will again include a week of cultural activities before the main concerts. This year, attendees can look forward to more music hours, a larger selection of food trucks, and an expanded festival area in the Palmetum parking lot in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The festival has just announced La La Love You, Pignoise, Biznaga, and Maika Makovski as part of its lineup. The full list of artists will be revealed soon, so the organizers encourage everyone to follow the festival's social media channels and visit its website, www.tenerifepenonfest.es, for updates.

Pignoise is set to return with their signature energetic pop-rock, featuring powerful guitars and catchy tunes. Since the early 2000s, they have been one of Spain's most popular bands. With hits like "Todo me da igual" and "Quiero," they continue to draw a loyal crowd eager to hear both their classics and new material.

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Maika Makovski is known for blending rock, pop, and jazz. She also stands out with her intense, poetic lyrics and strong stage presence.

The fresh and fun indie-pop band La La Love You, popular with younger audiences for their ironic and direct style, will also perform at Tenerife Peñón Fest. They promise a show full of memorable moments and a strong connection with the crowd.

Finally, Madrid punk-rock group Biznaga will bring their signature overflowing energy and urban lyrics, reflecting modern society, to the Tenerife Peñón Fest. They are considered one of Spain's most powerful alternative bands.
