To mark 100 years since his birth, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes launches "Otro Millares," a program re-examining the work of Spanish Informalism co-founder Manolo Millares through talks, a film screening, and never-before-seen footage.

Manolo Millares (Las Palmas, 1926-Madrid, 1972) was a key figure in Spanish Informalism and co-founded the influential El Paso Group. To mark 100 years since his birth, his work and influence will be thoroughly re-examined. This re-examination is part of a program called "Otro Millares" (Another Millares), organized by TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes and directed by Mariano de Santa Ana. The program aims to uncover less familiar aspects of Millares's art. His work, known for its material experimentation and deep emotional impact, is crucial for understanding the Spanish avant-garde art movement of the mid-20th century.

The series kicks off on April 12 with a talk titled "Millares among others [Artists who write]," given by art historian Juan José Lahuerta. Then, on April 26, art historian and independent curator Alicia Chillida will discuss the film Millares 1966 with the program director. This feature film, made by Alberto Portera, a leading figure in Spanish process cinema, will be shown in its complete version for the first time in the Canary Islands during this event.

On April 30, art historian and filmmaker Guillermo G. Peydró will participate. Before his talk, he will present never-before-seen footage of Millares, highlighting the artist's fascination with Super-8 film. The program concludes on May 7. Actress Aranza Coello will perform excerpts from Millares's "dramas for reading," followed by a panel discussion with Natalia Álvarez Simó, Julián Díaz Sánchez, and Mariano de Santa Ana. All events are scheduled for 7:00 PM.
