A man has been remanded in custody after a violent standoff in Tenerife involving domestic abuse allegations and threats against police officers.

A man has been remanded in custody without bail following a violent standoff in Guía de Isora, Tenerife. Police were called after the man’s partner reported that he had abused her and violated an active restraining order.

The incident began near the suspect’s home and ended in a tense pursuit through the town. The man, identified as Celso R.M., eventually barricaded himself in an alleyway. He acted aggressively toward officers, threatening them with a syringe he claimed to have used on himself and warning that he would throw heavy objects at them.

When negotiations failed, officers from the Civil Guard and Local Police used a conducted energy device (a Taser) to safely immobilize him. This allowed them to take him into custody without causing further harm to the suspect or themselves. The Arona Court of Instruction has since ordered his imprisonment.

The suspect has a history of similar offenses, including previous convictions for violating restraining orders and harassing local security forces and their families.

This case highlights the ongoing dangers police face when responding to domestic violence calls. Authorities noted that non-lethal tools like the Taser are essential for de-escalating high-tension situations, allowing officers to neutralize threats safely without resorting to firearms or direct physical force.
