A 24-year-old man is in serious condition after his car crashed into the entrance of the Tejina tunnel in Guía de Isora, Tenerife, early Sunday morning.

A 24-year-old man from Chío is receiving medical care after a serious car accident in Guía de Isora, Tenerife, early Sunday morning. The crash has renewed concerns about safety on the island’s secondary roads, where speeding remains a major factor in nighttime accidents.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on the TF-82 road. The driver was heading toward Tejina in an Opel Corsa when he lost control on a bridge curve. The car struck the entrance of the Tejina tunnel, bounced off the side of the road, and came to a stop inside the tunnel. The impact was so severe that the driver’s side of the car was torn off, requiring a complex rescue operation.

Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium and the Guía de Isora volunteer corps worked together to free the driver and secure the vehicle to prevent a fire. Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) provided first aid before transporting the man to a hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police managed traffic at the scene and have begun an investigation. The accident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by speeding on complex road sections, where sharp turns and road layout can quickly turn a mistake into a life-threatening situation.
