Man in Serious Condition After Being Struck by Car in La Laguna
A 26-year-old man is in serious condition after being struck by a car while attempting to cross the TF-13 road in La Laguna, Tenerife.
Road safety in Tenerife is back in the spotlight following a serious accident yesterday in La Laguna. According to the Canary Islands’ emergency services, a 26-year-old man is currently hospitalized at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) after being hit by a car on the TF-13 road.
The accident occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. near kilometer marker 18. Initial police reports suggest the man was attempting to cross the busy road outside of a designated pedestrian area. Investigators believe the man stepped into the road immediately after a large vehicle had passed, leaving the driver of the Volkswagen Polo little time to react. The driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs.
Emergency crews, including basic life support and a mobile intensive care unit, arrived quickly at the scene. The victim was treated for severe leg injuries and a significant head injury before being rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
The incident has reignited concerns about road safety in the area, where high-speed traffic and pedestrian movement often clash due to a lack of safe crossings. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether road design or poor visibility played a role in the collision on this stretch of road, which connects the Northern Highway (TF-5) to Punta del Hidalgo.
