A 58-year-old man is in critical condition after bystanders used an automated external defibrillator and performed CPR to save his life following a cardiac arrest in Los Realejos, Tenerife.

A 58-year-old man is in critical condition at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands after suffering a cardiac arrest in Los Realejos, Tenerife, this Wednesday.

The emergency occurred around 12:25 p.m. at the Casa de las Artes on San Agustín Street. Bystanders were able to save the man’s life by following instructions from a Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) nurse over the phone. They performed CPR and used the building’s automated external defibrillator (AED) while waiting for professional help to arrive.

When medical teams from the local health center and the SUC reached the scene, they took over advanced resuscitation efforts. Once the patient was stabilized, he was rushed to the hospital. The Local Police also assisted with the operation.

This incident highlights the vital importance of having defibrillators in public buildings and the value of training citizens in basic first aid.
