A 62-year-old man was hospitalized with moderate injuries after being rescued by firefighters from a ravine near the General Serrador Bridge in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Tuesday.

Safety concerns in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have been raised again following an accident near the General Serrador Bridge this Tuesday. According to the Canary Islands’ emergency services (CECOES 112), a 62-year-old man had to be hospitalized after falling into the ravine that runs through the city.

Emergency teams were called to the scene shortly before 4:00 p.m. Due to the steep and difficult terrain, the Tenerife Fire Consortium had to carry out a specialized rescue operation to reach the man and bring him to safety.

Once rescued, the man was stabilized by a basic life support team from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). He was then taken to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital with moderate injuries, which are common in falls from such heights. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of managing emergencies in a city where urban areas sit right next to rugged, hard-to-reach ravines. It also underscores how vital coordination between emergency agencies is when responding to accidents in these high-risk locations.
