Man Faces 24-Year Prison Sentence for Attempted Murder and Stalking in Tenerife
A man is set to stand trial in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on May 25, facing nearly 24 years in prison for charges including attempted murder, stalking, and illegal detention following a violent attack on his ex-partner and her passenger.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a combined prison sentence of nearly 24 years for a man accused of a series of violent crimes, including attempted murder. The trial is set to begin on May 25 at the Provincial Court.
According to court documents, the defendant refused to accept the end of a four-year relationship. He allegedly began stalking his ex-partner by installing a GPS tracker on her car. This surveillance led to a road incident where the accused deliberately crashed into the woman’s vehicle before attacking her passenger with a knife. The passenger suffered a life-threatening abdominal wound that reached his heart, requiring emergency surgery and 155 days of recovery, including three days in intensive care.
The indictment also states that the defendant held the woman against her will inside the car, where he allegedly beat her and threatened to kill her. Prosecutors have cited several aggravating factors, including the victim's relationship to the attacker, gender-based motivation, and the defendant’s history of driving without a license. They are seeking 180,000 euros in compensation for the victims, along with an additional 540-euro fine.
This case highlights how technological stalking and obsessive control can escalate into extreme physical violence. The defendant and an accomplice were arrested at the woman’s home after attempting to return to the scene of the crime. The man remains in custody while awaiting trial on charges of attempted murder, illegal detention, threats, harassment, and various road safety offenses.
