A 60-year-old man has died following a head-on collision in Tenerife. The La Laguna Local Police are currently investigating the crash, which has once again raised concerns regarding road safety on the island’s secondary routes.

The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. last Monday on the TF-16 road, near the Valle de Guerra wastewater treatment plant, between the towns of Tejina and Tacoronte. According to initial reports, the man’s Renault Clio drifted into the oncoming lane and struck an Opel Astra. Investigators noted that the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium from the San Benito station and medical teams from the SUC, were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a 58-year-old woman, was treated for moderate injuries.

As part of the standard investigation into the cause of the crash, authorities will conduct toxicological tests on the deceased. A final report will be submitted to the courts to determine the legal circumstances surrounding the incident.
