Man Dies After Drowning at La Tejita Beach in Tenerife

Safety on the Canary Islands coastline is back in the spotlight following a tragedy this Sunday at La Tejita beach in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, a 32-year-old man died after getting into difficulty in the water, highlighting the dangers posed by Atlantic currents in the region.

Emergency services were alerted just before 2:00 p.m. after the man was pulled from the water unconscious. Lifeguards on the beach immediately began performing CPR, but the man’s condition remained critical. When medical teams from the Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived, they found him in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite using advanced resuscitation techniques and a defibrillator, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident serves as a reminder of the vital need for vigilance and quick response times on busy beaches. The rescue operation involved the Civil Guard, local police, and the Tenerife Fire Department, who assisted emergency teams in reaching the difficult-to-access area. The Civil Guard has since taken charge of the investigation into the circumstances of the death.
