Man Arrested for Vehicle Thefts at Teide National Park Banned from Site
Spanish authorities have issued a restraining order against a repeat offender arrested for a series of vehicle thefts at Teide National Park as part of a new strategy to bolster security in high-traffic tourist areas.
Security in the Canary Islands' most popular tourist spots is back in the spotlight after the Civil Guard intervened at Teide National Park. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command reported that officers arrested a 59-year-old man from Los Realejos, who already had a criminal record.
The arrest is part of a new, reinforced surveillance strategy designed to combat a rise in crime in high-traffic areas of the park. Officers caught the man in the act of breaking into a vehicle. He is now accused of one robbery involving violence, two burglaries, and three additional thefts from cars, with the total value of the stolen items exceeding 1,000 euros.
After appearing in court, the man was issued a restraining order. He is now legally prohibited from visiting the viewpoints and roads within the municipality of La Orotava and the entire National Park.
Incidents like this highlight how vulnerable parked cars can be in busy tourist areas, where large crowds often attract repeat offenders. By issuing restraining orders that cover the entire park, authorities hope to prevent further crimes in an area that is difficult to monitor constantly due to its vast size and rugged terrain.
