A man was arrested in Arona, Tenerife, for stealing two machetes, leading to the discovery of an active deportation order against him.

A man was arrested in Arona, Tenerife, last Wednesday after stealing two machetes from a shop in El Fraile. While the theft initially seemed like a minor incident, it triggered a much more serious administrative process.

The arrest occurred on Calle Santa Cruz de La Palma. After a witness saw the man leaving the shop with the stolen weapons, they alerted the authorities. Local police quickly arrived and caught the suspect after a short chase, during which he discarded the machetes.

Typically, a theft of this nature would result in a quick release with a court summons. However, when officers checked the man’s identity, they discovered he was subject to an active deportation order. Because of this, the case was handed over to the National Police’s Immigration Brigade to handle his legal status.

This incident highlights how essential it is for local police and state authorities to share information through connected databases. While the investigation into why the man stole the weapons remains ongoing, he is now facing both criminal charges for the theft and administrative proceedings regarding his residency status in Spain.
