Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife arrested a 40-year-old man for drug trafficking after discovering over 10 grams of cocaine in his possession during a routine traffic stop.

Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have arrested a 40-year-old man for drug trafficking following a crackdown on local hotspots.

The arrest took place at around 1:00 a.m. last Friday during a routine police checkpoint in the Vuelta de Los Pájaros area—a location frequently reported by residents for drug-related activity. Officers stopped a Volkswagen Polo, and a police dog alerted them to the presence of illegal substances. A search of the driver, identified as E.G.L., revealed 10.6 grams of cocaine hidden in his clothing.

The man, who was celebrating his 40th birthday at the time, was taken to a medical center for a check-up before being transferred to a police station. He now faces charges for a crime against public health.

This operation is part of a broader strategy by local authorities to tackle drug dealing in urban neighborhoods using random patrols and canine units.
