Man Arrested for Attempted Homicide Following Stabbing in La Laguna
A 48-year-old man has been arrested for attempted homicide after stabbing a 21-year-old during a debt-related dispute in the Las Mantecas neighborhood of La Laguna.
The Las Mantecas neighborhood in La Laguna is back under police scrutiny following a violent incident linked to small-scale drug dealing. Local police have arrested a 48-year-old man for attempted homicide and assault after a 21-year-old man was stabbed.
The incident occurred last Saturday and appears to stem from a debt collection dispute. According to investigators, the victim and a friend arrived at a building on Calle Radioaficionado on an electric scooter to confront the suspect over an unpaid debt. The argument quickly turned physical, and the suspect allegedly attacked the pair with a kitchen knife.
The 21-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, while his companion narrowly avoided a strike to the neck. Despite their injuries, the two men managed to flee the scene on their scooter and seek treatment at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC). Hospital staff alerted the police, which allowed officers to identify the individuals involved and track down the suspect at his home.
While the detainee admitted to having a confrontation with the men, he denied using a weapon. The case has now been handed over to the National Police and is being processed by the La Laguna Court of Instruction.
This event highlights a growing concern in the area, where drug-related conflicts frequently escalate into extreme violence. Quick medical intervention likely prevented the situation from becoming fatal, and the Local Police’s swift investigation was key to identifying the suspect.
