A 73-year-old man was airlifted to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands following a serious head-on collision on Tenerife’s TF-21 mountain road on Saturday.

Road safety on Tenerife’s mountain routes is under scrutiny again following a serious crash on the TF-21 this Saturday. According to the 112 Emergency Coordination Center, a 73-year-old man was injured in a head-on collision with a car near kilometer marker 71 in Vilaflor.

The challenging terrain of this road, which winds from the coast up to the island’s peaks, makes emergency responses particularly difficult. In this case, paramedics from a basic life support ambulance stabilized the man at the scene, with further assistance provided by a medical team from a Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) helicopter. Once stabilized, the injured man was airlifted to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) for specialized treatment.

The accident, which occurred at 11:37 a.m., highlights the risks motorcyclists face on winding roads, where factors like speed, visibility, and sharp turns can easily lead to head-on collisions. The incident also underscores how vital rapid medical response—and the use of air ambulances—is for saving lives in the island's more remote, hard-to-reach areas.
