Man Airlifted After Vehicle Plunges Down Embankment in Tenerife
A 33-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle plunged down an embankment on Tenerife’s TF-28 road this Sunday.
A rescue operation in San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife, this Sunday highlighted the difficulties of responding to emergencies in the island's rugged terrain. According to the Canary Islands' 112 emergency service, a 33-year-old man required an urgent evacuation after his vehicle went over an embankment on the TF-28 road.
The accident occurred near kilometer marker 84 shortly before 3:00 p.m. Firefighters were called to the scene to extract the man from the ravine, a task that underscored how challenging the island’s secondary roads can be for rescue teams. After receiving initial treatment for serious multiple injuries, the man was airlifted by a medical helicopter to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital.
The Civil Guard is now investigating why the vehicle left the road. Meanwhile, road maintenance crews secured the area to ensure the safety of other drivers during the rescue. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by sharp curves and steep drops on conventional roads, where even minor driving errors can lead to severe consequences.
